For Black History Month, our art class made a collection of Diva Wreaths. Diva Wreaths highlight the significance of hair and headwraps in African culture. Using different materials, residents showcased the vibrant patterns and colors that make headwraps unique.
Silver Glen hosted an "Encanto" Family Movie Day this Sunday! Residents prepared for the occasion by creating specialty snack boxes, handmade pillows, and a Miracle Candle replica for each great-grandchild. We also prepared giant paper flowers for colorful and festive décor to match the ...film. It was so much fun enjoying the day with residents and family members!
We're team #SOBs 🍪 Son of Batch!
The first-ever #CookieClash between The Oaks at Algonquin Senior Living and Silver Glen was a success! Silver Glen's team, "The Sons of Batches," SOBs, battled out a chance to get their chocolate chip cookie recipe featured at UpRising Bakery and Cafe! The two categories judged in ...this cookie clash were 1. #BestChocolateChip, and 2. #BestDecoratedSugarCookie. Our cookie, "Chip Off the Old Block," a potato chip-based chocolate chip cookie, was a salty showstopper. We choose geodes-inspired cookies with edible rock candy and glitter for our sugar-decorated cookies. The battle was a tight race, and both teams came out on top due to a split decision. Come purchase The Oaks' "The Chocolate Cherry Chew" at UpRising in February and our "Chip Off the Old Block" in March!

Members of our #AdventureClub calmed it down a bit by trying Aerial Silk Restorative Yoga at Sage Healing Collective. #RestorativeYoga focuses on slow movements that highlight mind-body tension. We practiced balance, core strength, and breathing as we worked our way around the silk hammocks.

Residents are embracing the holiday season by learning about Kwanzaa and the rich African cultures it celebrates. Residents created artistic representations of various cultural and ethnic elements like the South African Ndebele Houses and the Ankos Mask festival. Our resident, Gordy, made a scaled ...3D model of a painted Ndebele house painted with symbols that represent fertility and diligence. Other residents created their representation of the Ankos mask, using meaningful colors that portray emotions like love, happiness, and wealth. Silver Glen wishes all a happy Kwanzaa and a happy New Year!
