Nervous you won’t make friends? Unlikely! Afraid you’ll have to give up your hobbies? Not a chance. Get a glimpse into our community programming and what life is like living here by checking out our Facebook page. We frequently share what residents have been doing to stay active, involved, and living life to the fullest.

The residents have been researching glass art for some time, and Astral Glass Studio was gracious enough to have us in their studio! Homestead members got to see stunning hands-on glass-blowing demonstrations and gorgeous finished pieces. They are now inspired to begin their glass art program and ...have already started saving empty bottles. Stay tuned, the residents cannot wait to share their glass art projects!

Planting season is here! The Mad Potter Garden Club is so excited to take their sweet potato garden outdoors finally! We have been experimenting with various ways to grow the sweet potato slips. The residents look forward to harvesting time and watching their experiment flourish over the next few ...months.

Throughout the month of May, Homestead residents are learning about the history of mosaic art and creating their own masterpieces. They had so much fun arranging the pebbles to form their unique design, and showing off their masterpiece was the best part! When other residents saw the finished ...piece, they quickly decided they wanted to create it for themselves.

Here at Homestead, residents look forward to lending a hand where help is needed. This month, our Crafting For A Cause group perfected a unique skincare product, natural deodorant! It is, by far, the best natural deodorant any of us have ever tested. We are excited to share that this batch of ...deodorant will be donated to a local charity, Grace’s Place!

What an amazing day for a Cardinals game! Awesome company, perfect weather, great food, and fantastic views. Shout out to Busch Stadium for the free tickets and their gracious hospitality! The Homestead residents, friends, and family had an amazing time. #birds ⚾️

How lovely did these fancy hat art pieces turn out! Homestead residents are excited to be a part of history and celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. Many watched the ceremony live, while others enjoyed a fancy hat sip ‘n paint English tea party.

Homestead residents are taking soap-making to a whole other level! They started with basic soap, then coffee soap, and now a citrus bar and a rose clay shave bar. The citrus bar smells of grapefruit and tangerine with specs of poppy seeds for gentle exfoliating. The shave bar is made of Aloe Vera ...oil, rose clay, and vitamin E oil for luxurious shaving. All soaps will be available for a suggested donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

How cool did this pottery project turn out? Homestead’s “Mad Potters” are preparing for spring planting with stylish DIY pottery planters. Residents are excited about sunshine and warmer weather and cannot wait to let the planting activities begin! Stay tuned; the Mad Potters are also working... on a surprise wall pottery planter for our upcoming family night on June 30th. Family and friends are welcome!

‘Twas the perfect spring day for an outing! We took a trip to the Washington Historical Society, where residents revisited the history and heritage of the Washington, Missouri, area. Jean got to see photos of her husband’s family restaurant, Wimpy’s, where she, and her husband, John, met. She... even helped name some of the locals pictured in the museum. The museum’s stunning exhibits made for a touching trip down memory lane!

Modern art with a twist! For our 80’s theme day, the Homestead artists took outdoor activities and egged a few canvases. Their finished masterpiece took a team effort and turned out it turned out WAY better than eggspected🥚💥

We had a spectacular 80’s Pictionary Night! Residents shared 80’s memories, their drawing skills, and many laughs. Thank you to the families who stopped by, and we look forward to our next Family Night at the ballpark on May 4th!

I visited The Homestead at Hickory View recently to gather an idea of how they work, what they have to offer those living there, and the overall atmosphere so I can share my experience with my Medicare clients. I think it's important to meet the staff, walk around and take everything in before sharing my opinions and views to those who entrust in me. With that said, I had an amazing experience! I met with Holly upon arrival and immediately when walking in the door you feel at home. She took me to lunch in Homesteads dining area to start our visit. The food was great - the members get to have amazing meals served to them all day while relaxing in a formal dining room rather than a kitchen area. We then took a tour of the grounds to see how they offer an apartment/cottage that meets all needs. Some apartments are smaller and great for those not looking for a lot of space but very updated and bright! Other apartments that offer a lot of great features, spacious and accommodating. Then we moved to the cottages, which WOW. You feel at home the minute you walk in! Not only are the living spaces great, the amenities that Homestead offers are unbelievable. To know that they have nursing 24-7 if needed, a salon to make everyone feel great all the time, a movie theater and gathering rooms with activities to constantly give everyone something to do and be able to enjoy their spare time was great! I could honestly go on for days at how great my visit was! The staff was smiles the entire time I was there but I never got the feeling that it was because a tour was going on. No one knew the purpose of my visit besides Holly and they all seemed at ease and enjoying their job. Holly sincerely loves what she does! She loves everyone living there and their needs are at the top of her priority list. If anyone from your family is considering simplifying their lifestyle or just looking to have people close by and looking for Independent Living, I couldn't recommend The Homestead at Hickory View enough! Thank you for having me!

As a community-based medical service provider I've had several patients at The Homestead. I've felt comfortable from the moment I step into the facility to the moment I leave. Always a friendly, smiling face at the front desk and even in the other residents as I walk down the hall. All of my patients have felt comfortable and loved at The Homestead. One afternoon I kept my patient too long and a friend came looking for him making sure that he was alright! My patients have enjoyed the freedom of still being able to get out around town by using Homestead's transportation. The staff have welcomed my company with open arms and keep in great contact with us. I feel like we are all family and looking out for one another! Such a wonderful place!

An Incredible PlaceAfter living in the Washington DC area for more than sixty years, my Aunt moved to Washington, Mo. a major change. However with the wonderful setting,at Homestead and terrific staff, my Aunt soon adjusted and called it home. She was a resident of Homestead at Hickory View for six years..As time went on she needed assistance. Having a nursing staff on site enabled her to live out her life very contently. She did not have to move to a new environment for assistance. Every time we would drive up to Homestead - she would say "home again, home again."I will be forever grateful for the kindness and generosity of the Homestead and Cooperative Home Care folks...and so was my Aunt.
